"I discovered The Cure a little late in their career. It was the early 90s and a friend and I watched the movie The Crow starring Brandon Lee. The whole dark goth vibe of that film was so cool. We both became obsessed with the soundtrack and one of the stand out tracks was 'Burn' by The Cure. This was the song that first introduced me to the band properly... I'd heard other stuff through my parents from their older records but I didn't give it much attention because unless it didn't have a fast thrashy guitar riff I wasn't interested. I was young and ignorant.
As I got older I found myself always coming back to the band, listening to their older records and realising how much they'd influenced other bands I liked. Nowadays, I listen to them on a regular basis - especially when i'm creating artwork in my studio. The one thing I love is that they are great at creating a sense of atmosphere through their music. It really helps me lose myself in the artwork i'm making.
My eldest daughter and I have been listening to them together for a while now and this is what sparked the idea for this piece of artwork. She plays drums and we often jam The Cure together... Like me, she has a creative mind and what better way to celebrate our love for art and music by including her in the actual artwork. One of our favourite tracks is 'A Forest' so that was essentially the theme for this piece. Not only is this a tribute to the genius of Robert Smith and his band, but it is also honouring the idea that through music you can create a strong bond between parent and child."
